As we start a brand new month, there are a ton of new launches happening in February. What is new in beauty for February 2018? I’m going to do my best to lay out the biggest launches for the month (as of today) and whether or not I’ll be picking any of them up. Keep in mind, companies are constantly releasing new items, so this list is not exhaustive (though I’m trying!).
sugarpill x little twin stars (available now) – This collab features a 6-pan eyeshadow palette and 2 liquid lipsticks, as well as a couple of my favorite sanrio characters. The colors are bright and vivid and is definitely for the more adventurous makeup lover. My heart wants to buy the whole collection, but my brain is telling me that I know I will never wear a bright turquoise lipstick. Ever. But if you’re more adventurous than me, you might want to pick this up.
too faced ‘life is a festival’ (available 2/15) – Going full force into the unicorn theme, Too Faced is coming out with lipsticks and lip glosses, an eyeshadow palette and more that are all about that shimmer and holographic-ness. I’m not into the super shimmery life, so I will be passing on this collection.
cover fx power play foundation ($44, available 2/15) – With 40 shades, Cover FX’s newest foundation is a “natural-matte” finish with all-day full weightless coverage. That is a ton of claims and all things I want in my foundation. The shade range is promising and I see some olive shades so hopefully I’ll be able to find a match for me. This will be one I would love to try.
marc jacobs shameless foundation (price TBD, available 2/9) – Another foundation with an impressive shade range (including one that might be a match for my olive skintone) that I am also excited to try. This is meant to be a 24-hour wear foundation with a bit of SPF. While I don’t ever wear my foundation for that long, I do need at least 12 hours of wear so this also is a selling point for me. To top it off, it’s supposedly oil-free with a natural finish – all things I’m looking for in a foundation.
it cosmetics bye bye foundation moisturizer (price TBD, available end of February) – We go from large shade ranges to very tiny with this new one from IT Cosmetics. They’re cult favorite cc+ cream also has a small shade range, so this isn’t a huge surprise. I won’t be picking this one up, mainly because I’m not into super moisturizing foundations and will likely not find a good shade match.
viseart tryst palette (price and release date TBD) – Viseart is a brand known for their great eyeshadows, so whenever they release a new palette, there is a lot of buzz surrounding it. We really don’t know anything, other than it will be a 9-pan similar to their golden hour palette. If it is priced similarly, this will be $49. We’ll likely be seeing this right before Valentine’s day, so I’m imagining light pinks and rosy tones. I’ll be interested to see reviews on this one before I decide if I’m picking this up.
bad habit beauty after collection ($10 each, available now) – Bad Habit is known for making dupe palettes and this time, they’ve tried to dupe the Huda Beauty obsessions palettes. They’re 9-pan palettes all surrounding a specific color theme. Personally, I won’t be picking these up and I actually decluttered all my Bad Habit palettes. I was first drawn in by the hype of finding good dupe palettes, but the more I think about it, I don’t want to support a brand that rips off other brands. It’s one thing to be inspired by, but these have gone above and beyond that.
nars danger control eyeshadow palette ($49, available now) – This is such a beautiful looking palette. It features light holographic-like shades, which is a 2017 trend going on strong. It reminds me of the kat von d alchemist palette, with the subtle pastel shades. For nearly $50, it’s a pretty steep price for 6 shadows. For me, this is also probably a pass, but those shades are so darn beautiful.
anastasia beverly hills x amrezy highlighter in golden sand dunes ($28, available 2/14) – This is the second collab with ABH and Amrezy and they’re coming out with an almost white gold highlighter. Personally, I have fallen out of love with highlighters, so this is a hard pass for me.
stila glitter and glow highlighters ($30, available now) – When Stila came out with their glitter and glow liquid eyeshadows last year, they were a huge hit. It seems like they’ve taken that formula and made it a bit more sheer to translate as a highlighter. Again, I probably won’t pick this up because, well, it’s a highlighter, but I’d be interested in seeing how the formula translates. The colors are quite unique and I’m hoping this has the same reception as the liquid eyeshadows.
kat von d everlasting glimmer veil liquid lipstick ($22, available now) – Right now, there’s only one shade (starflyer) available, which is a lavender with iridescent glimmer. We’re slowly shifting away from the metallics of last year with more glitter, glossy formulas. Swatches of this makes it look so gorgeous, but I’ll be passing on this one. For me, I just won’t get any use out of it – it looks fun, but it’s a bit out of my comfort zone.
pat mcgrath starmuse duo lipsticks (price TBD, available 2/6) – Pat McGrath has taken over the makeup world with her launches. She’s releasing a duo of her Matte Trance lipsticks in a limited edition red case, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Both of the shades, Omi and Elson, are available permanently so if you’re unable to pick up the LE packaging, you can pick it up in the standard black bullet at Sephora.
Whew! That is quite a list and I’m sure I didn’t include everything coming out this month. What are some new launches you are looking forward to? Let me know what I should be keeping my eye on in the comments!
’til next time, xo!
