I will have to admit, I was a bit skeptical to start reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Mainly because I should be past the point of reading young adult novels and start reading more grown up things. But alas, I found myself buying this book over a long holiday and not being able to put it down. Naturally, when they said that they would be making a movie out of it, I got excited.
I am one of those people who naively believes that some movie adaptations will live up to the book standards. I thought Fight Club was a great adaption of the novel. But, lately, we’ve been seeing some not-so-good adaptions (I’m looking at you, Beautiful Creatures.) Either way, I am quite interested to see how this one will play out.
The novel is written from the perspective of the main character, Tris. I’m always interested in movies that take these heavily PoV novels and make movies out of it. A lot of what happens is in Tris’ thoughts and that is what I am anxious to see brought to life.
Besides that, the movie itself, based on the trailers, looks like it will be pretty accurate. I am excited to see post apocalyptic Chicago (is that a spoiler?) and how they plan on depicting all the different factions. And I am super excited about the Dauntless training scenes! Oh, I think I might enjoy this movie.
For those of you who have not read the books, go for it! It’s a trilogy and all the books have been released. You can get all caught up in two weeks, just in time for the movie.
