listening: The Civil Wars – both “Barton Hallow” and their newly released self-titled album. If you are a lover of beautiful vocals and captivating melodies, I would check them out. Songs of note: eavesdrop, the one that got away, and sacred heart (which is sung in French!).
lusting: for Dodo Case’s hard case for iPhone 5. I love the fact that it looks like a book and that they have so many customization options. This might be the next case I buy! (Though, I am loving my speck case!)
watching: New Girl Season 2 on Netflix. I wanted to catch up on all the laughs before I dove into Hulu and watched the newest episodes. I’m nearly done – I have about 3 more episodes before I hit season 3!
wearing: Rivet & Sway’s Plus One glasses in Maraschino Cherry. I just got these a few days ago and I am loving them. Expect a review in a couple of days after I had some more time to wear it. First impressions: great fit and lightweight – two of my favorite and necessary things when it comes to glasses.

musings: true north

When I visited Seattle a few weeks ago, I was drawn to the little signs that pointed “north.” Maybe it was my idea of a compass, or maybe I just like the idea of escaping north, but I kept taking pictures like the one above. So today, I’m musing about what my center is and where I want to be headed – in life, love, work, and even this blog. Sometimes I feel like I have to have it figured out and somedays, I realize that I don’t. It’s okay to not have your life fully together in your mid-twenties. It’s okay and I’m okay.

speck product’s candyshell grip

I have to admit: I change my phone case often. It happens depending on my mood – so I have a cache of phone cases just sitting around. I’ve used cases from Rifle Paper Co, Kate Spade, and Marc Jacobs, just to name a few.

Another company that I use a lot (not just for phone cases, but computer + tablet cases as well) is Speck Products. So, when I was perusing their website the other day, I saw the CandyShell Grip in Nickel + Sweet Mint and I knew I just had to have it. I have a soft spot for anything mint and also am very, very clumsy, so I thought this would be a win-win.

Before I get into how the product works, just a quick review of the actual purchase of the case. Here’s a quick timeline:

ordered: Monday
shipped: Monday (literally got a shipping confirmation an hour after an order confirmation)
received: Wednesday

Speck offers free shipping on US orders – living in Hawaii typically adds to the shipping costs for most online vendors, so this is always a plus for me. Having ordered from Speck multiple times, this is the typical service I receive from them, so they get an A+ on the actual purchase procedure of the case.

As for the actual case itself, I have to give Speck an A. Some pros: it covers the entire phone (leaving cut outs for the headphone jack and charger port), the color is beautiful, and it is very grippy. I haven’t dropped my phone once yet (knock of wood!) It doesn’t add too much noticeable weight or bulk to the phone, which I like. The one con I found it because of the plasticky material, scratches are noticeable, but not unbearable. But the phone is also covered in the rubber grip, so it’s not too bad.

If you’re looking for a new phone case, I would highly recommend this one. It comes in a multitude of colors, so it can fit most personalities, and the actual grippy-ness of the phone makes it worth the $35 price point (which is on par for most designer phone cases).

fall television excitement

I watch a lot of television. Seriously. That is not an exaggeration. With my summer shows winding down (oh, how I miss you already, Teen Wolf), September means new shows!

On the returning front, I am extremely excited about The Vampire Diaries (my guilty pleasure show), The Mindy Project (how can you not love Mindy Kaling?), New Girl (Nick Miller is my spirit animal + I want to steal all of Jess’ clothes), and Modern Family. Obviously, I have a thing for comedy. And guess what? You can catch the first episode of The Mindy Project on Hulu right now! (No spoilers from me.) I’m also looking forward to How I Met Your Mother (finally – it only took 8 seasons for a reveal), Parks and Recreation (Leslie Knope is my role model), Revenge, and Once Upon a Time.

But there are some exciting new shows coming out that I am pumped for! First up, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I love Joss Whedon and everything he does (no matter how many characters he kills off), so this is on the top of my new shows to watch list. Also, Super Fun Night just because of Rebel Wilson. She stole the show in Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect, and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. She is hilarious. On the CW, I can wait for Reign (I love period pieces) and The Originals (of course, the TVD spin-off. The Original family holds some of my favorite characters, so I have extremely high expectations for this show). And some other shows I may watch (depending on what I hear about the pilots) are Sleepy Hallow, Almost Human, and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (this is a spin-off I’m a little afraid of – it might be good, but it could also be very, very bad).

Also, let’s not forget, the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special is out in November. I am pumped for that one.

I sense my weeknights to be filled with television – and who can blame me? What shows are you looking forward to?

reading: The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. Yes, I was one of those people who started watching Game of Thrones before reading the books. But, I’m trying to make up for it and started reading the series. Let’s just say – it’s amazing. You get a lot more detail (of course!) and insight into the characters’ thoughts. Thank you Barnes and Noble for having a 5-book set for Nook available!

watching: Breaking Bad on AMC. I did the whole binge-watch all five seasons before season 5b started up a few weeks ago. If you follow me on twitter, you know I am (1) rooting for Jesse and (2) am whole-heartedly broken hearted by his storyline. 3 more episodes and I honestly don’t know if I can handle it. I love that this show isn’t black and white – there are so many shades of grey, so many reasons behind people’s actions that make it difficult to say someone is “good” or “bad.” Everyone’s a bit of both.

listening: Native by OneRepublic. There are very few albums that I can listen to every song without skipping and this is one of them. I have always been a huge fan of OneRepublic (since Dreaming Out Loud), so loving this album is no surprise to me. It has been repeated many times a day while I am at work. Songs of note: “Counting Stars,” “I Lived,” and “Preacher.” Just listen. It’s amazing.

lusting: Kate Spade’s new beau (haha, get it?!) bag. Seriously, since I saw it, I wanted it. If only, if only I had the money to drop on that beauty.
